The employment position and research activity are physically and organisationally located at the Department of Translational Medicine in Malmö at Skåne University Hospital in Malmö.

Cancer is one of the major focus areas at the Department of Translational Medicine (ITM). With this appointment of a senior lecturer, ITM intends to reinforce and maintain its strategically important cancer research, conducted at the department and at the Faculty of Medicine. The aim is to recruit a person capable of successfully leading their own research activity within the field of molecular cancer cell biology and drug development, who stands to benefit from and reinforce ongoing cancer research at the department and at the faculty. With this senior lecturership, we are looking for an established independent researcher with unique and innovative research and deep knowledge within the field, who can contribute to and maintain the internationally strong position of cancer research at Lund University’s Faculty of Medicine.

Work duties
The work duties mainly include research, but also teaching in the first, second and third cycles, which requires good knowledge within the subject area of molecular cancer cell biology and drug development. The position includes research/development within the relevant specialisation and covers in vitro and in vivo models and methods, such as molecular biology analyses of potential target molecules for drug development and their further validation with advanced cell biology methods, including high-resolution microscopy and microscopy of living cells. The appointed candidate will be expected to establish a successful research team, principally funded through its own external grants, and to conduct research of a translational nature with the aim of defining and laying the foundations for new future diagnostic and/or treatment principles for patients with cancer. The appointed candidate will also be expected to carry out other work duties normally associated with a position as senior lecturer, such as administrative duties, service associated with internal and external elected office, and representing the subject nationally and internationally. Additional work duties may occur.

Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance states that a person shall be qualified for appointment as Senior Lecturer if he or she has demonstrated teaching expertise and been awarded a PhD or has corresponding research competence. 

To be qualified the individual shall have completed at least five weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning or acquired equivalent knowledge by other means, unless there are valid reasons.

Grounds for assessment
In the assessment, particular emphasis will be placed on research expertise within the field of molecular cancer cell biology and drug development, with special consideration for documented experience within pre-clinical translational research as well as marker-based and customised drug development. The ability to attract national and/or international grants is an additional qualification. The applicant is to have demonstrated research expertise by maintaining a high national and international level as a researcher. Significance will also be attached to ongoing national and international research collaborations.

Importance will also be placed on teaching expertise, the ability to supervise doctoral students and administrative expertise. Teaching expertise is to be demonstrated both within teaching and within supervision in the first, second and third cycles.

Attention will also be paid to demonstrated leadership ability, ability to cooperate and a proven ability to interact with wider society. Furthermore, the ability to lead and develop administrative expertise is an additional qualification.

The general qualification requirements for academic staff are being suited to and having the general ability required to complete the duties of the post well.
