The Faculty of Science conducts research and education within Biology, Astronomy, Physics, Geosciences, Chemistry, Mathematics and Environmental Sciences. The Faculty is organized into ten departments, gathered in the northern campus area. The Faculty has approximately 1900 students, 330 PhD students and 700 employees.

The researcher will have to use experimental and theoretical tools to investigate the structural and particularly the dynamic properties of lens protein solutions and mixtures. The experimental methods include phase/state diagram studies and a variety of scattering experiments (such as small-angle X-ray (SAXS) and neutron (SANS) as well as light scattering) including the quasi-elastic scattering techniques neutron spin echo (NSE) and neutron backscattering spectroscopy. Our targeted goal is to arrive at an advanced understanding of the link between protein interactions and the dynamics of these proteins in highly concentrated/crowded mixtures. In order to reach this goal, the successful candidate will also have to measure, identify and quantify contributions from internal protein dynamics and disentangle them from the overall translational and rotational protein diffusion.

The project will be conducted at the University of Lund, Sweden, at the Department of Physical Chemistry.

Required qualifications:

- PhD in physics with a strong biophysicochemical background

- Experience in protein and colloid science

- Experience in protein dynamics (experimental and theoretical)

- Experience in scattering techniques (neutron, X-ray, light) applied to soft and biological matter

- Experience in neutron backscattering techniques applied to protein solutions

- Experience in Fourier-Transform-IR spectroscopy of protein solutions

- Experience with Python, C, Mathematica, Matlab, Linux, LaTeX

- Experience in theory of stochastic processes and phase transitions
