Our research group at the Department of Experimental Medical Sciences, Lund University, is looking to fill a position of a research engineer (m/f) in full-time (100 %, 38.5 hours/week) with the main focus on sphingosine-1-phosphate signaling during hypertension.

Our group concentrates on the investigation of cellular signaling pathways and pathophysiological mechanisms, which underlie changes in vascular homeostasis during hypertension. To identify potential target structures for new therapies, we study cellular functions in transgenic models of  hypertension and hypertension-related diseases using a wide array of in vivo, in vitro and ex vivo methods. We offer a project in a motivated international research team, the possibility to apply state-of-the-art techniques and the possibility of project-related research stays with our collaborative partners abroad.

Job description
The position holder will participate in a research project to investigate the involvement of S1P-mediated vascular responses during hypertension in mice. The project will mainly engage the use of the following techniques:

- in vivo work in mouse models (incl. surgical implantation of osmotic pumps and blood pressure transducers, echocardiography, blood pressure measurements, different treatment routines, and

- ex vivo examinations of smalls vessels using wire myography, pressure myography - acute and cultured vessel, histological and immunological methods (cryosectioning, staining) microscopy. 

The successful applicant is expected to independently design and perform experiments, run statistical analyses.

Requested qualifications
Solid knowledge in vascular biology and proven experience in work with small arteries and blood vessels. Previous practical experience in work with research animals (incl. microsurgery, surgical implantation of pumps and telemetry devices) and the ability to independently perform extensive ex vivo experiments (incl. small vessel isolation, wire myography, pressure myography - acute and cultured vessels) of different murine and human vascular tissue are required. Good knowledge of cardiovascular dysfunction related to inflammation and oxidative stress, and good knowledge of English (speaking and writing) are required. Desirable techniques include Western blotting, qPCR and immunohistochemistry. Previous experience with microscopy, Lab-chart and Myo-view software, ex vivo imaging approaches as well as statistical software (such as GraphPad and SPSS) is considered to be a merit. Interest in international exchange is strongly encouraged.

The position is limited to 24 months. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
