Some of our strongest areas with world-class research deal with cancer, genetics and blood.

The division of Molecular Microbiology is doing an exciting research project (Genetic characterization and evolutionary dynamics of HIV-1 within and between hosts) in the field of HIV-1 molecular epidemiology and pathogenesis. The overall objective of this PhD project is two-fold: (1) to identify and characterize key drivers of HIV transmission and molecular epidemiology in Nigeria and Guinea-Bissau; and (2) to characterize the blood proteome during acute HIV-1 infection, and disentangle HIV-1 selection, evolution and adaptation in patients with different rates of disease progression. The studies will involve supervision of project workers performing BSc or MSc projects in the research group, general lab duties to the same extent as other members in the group as well as some administrative duties.
