MAX IV is a national large-scale research laboratory providing scientists from Sweden and the rest of the world with instruments for research in areas such as materials science, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually. 200 people are currently employed at the MAX IV Laboratory.

We are offering summer work for up to 8 weeks within the CoSAXS team at MAX IV.

In this role, you will design and build a laser alignment tool to enable tracking of the position of the small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) detector within a vacuum vessel.  The alignment tool should be based on a laser and photodiode system.  This task requires experience of small angle scattering, Bragg’s Law and the configuration of X-ray experiments. The student should have knowledge of electronics and opto-electronics. Engineering, design and 3D CAD software experience are desired. Computer programming in matlab and a good command of English are essential.
