Lunds universitet, Lunds Tekniska Högskola, Kemiska institutionen

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top 100 universities. The University has 40 000 students and 7 400 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

LTH forms the Faculty of Engineering at Lund University, with approximately 9 000 students. The research carried out at LTH is of a high international standard and we are continuously developing our teaching methods and adapting our courses to current needs.

ScanOats is a newly established industrial research centre in collaboration between the academy and the industry. We conduct basic and applied research on oats and oat-based products. Oat is an important crop both for the Swedish agriculture and for the food chain. ScanOats is unique in the sense that we cover the entire chain from basic research, genome sequencing, cultivar development, field testing, mild processing and fractionation, and clinical health trials.

Background
The project will focus on developing oat with low lipase activities in the grain. Our available oat genome sequence will be analysed for the presence of lipasbiosynthesis- and other lipase associated genes with a special focus on genes expressed during seed development. Various lipase assays will be developed and oat lines with downregulated lipase activity in the grain will be selected from our oat mutant population. Mutations behind modifies lipase activities will be mapped Low lipase mutated oat lines will be genome sequenced and the molecular mechanisms behind lipase biosynthesis will be elucidated.

The work will be conducted in collaboration with researchers within the other work packages of ScanOats, with CropTailor and with ScanOats industrial partners Lantmännen, Oatly and Swedish Oat Fibre.
