The main goal of the research is to study and understand processes in materials, most often in relation to durability.

Work duties
The position connects to the division’s research on wood and bio-based materials and concern work in a project on modified wood. Acetylation is a chemical modification that increase the resistance against fungal degradation, but the mechanism behind is not fully understood. An important factor is however that the moisture content of the wood is lowered. In this project, the influence of acetylation on the interaction between wood and water will be studied with focus on high moisture levels. The work duties can also involve applying for external funding and teaching. We are looking for a researcher in the early stage of her/his career.

Qualification requirements
Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent research qualification within the subject of the position. The applicant must also have documented experience of research on wood/bio-based materials as well as experience in publishing in peer-reviewed scientific journals. In addition, the applicant must have the ability to independently plan, perform and evaluate research studies and very good oral and written proficiency in English.

Assessment criteria and other qualifications
Consideration will also be given to experience on the interactions between wood/bio-based materials and water, on chemical wood modification, and experience of any of the methods: Low-Field Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (LFNMR), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), sorption balance (DVS) and pressure plate.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.
