Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top 100 universities. The University has 40 000 students and 7 400 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

The Faculty of Medicine is a part of Lund University, and is responsible for education and research within medicine and healthcare. Our academic programs are closely linked with the healthcare system and are firmly anchored in the faculty’s strong research tradition. Our research spans a broad field within experimental preclinical research, near-patient clinical research and health sciences research. The Faculty of Medicine, with its 1,800 employees and 2,700 students in Lund and Malmö, is a knowledge-intensive meeting place for students, teachers and researchers from all over the world.

Post-doctoral position in hematopoiesis/bone organ engineering

The lab is located within the BioMedical Center of the Faculty of Medicine and is part of Lund University (Sweden). With a direct connection to Copenhagen International airport (30min), Lund is an accessible city and a European hub for research.

The laboratory for Cell, Tissue and Organ engineering aims at deciphering the cellular & molecular mechanisms occurring during phases of bone formation/repair. Using state-of-the-art 3D culture systems, death-inducible human mesenchymal lines and tissue engineering protocols, we focus on studying processes of cartilage/bone/bone marrow establishment in human(ized) contexts. More information available on our website: www.bourginelab.com.

Your profile: You are a freshly graduated PhD with a strong curiosity and ambition to discover. The laboratory will offer you robust training in human cellular biology, engineering of human cells/tissues/organs, as well as in manipulation of 3D culture systems. You will be most welcome in a young, friendly and dynamic environment.

Your project: You will exploit novel human death-inducible Mesenchymal cell lines, capable of forming mature hematopoietic bone organs (ossicles), through recapitulation of the endochondral ossification process. Using gain/loss of functions in these cells, you will generate “customized bone organs” with distinct molecular signature. You will subsequently analyze the functional organization of the hematopoietic compartment, and decipher the role of the modified gene/pathways.

Profile requirements: International working experience, mouse and/or human hematopoiesis as principal background, less than 2 years of post-doctoral experience. Competitive research outputs and excellent speaking/writing English level.

Desirable skills: Flow cytometry, & standard cell culture techniques, ability to work with animals. Experience in molecular biology techniques is a plus (e.g. cloning, constitutive/inducible gene expression systems, lentivirus or Crispr-Cas9).

Working Pattern / Starting Date: Full time / Early 2019.
