LTH forms the Faculty of Engineering at Lund University, with approximately 9 000 students. The research carried out at LTH is of a high international standard and we are continuously developing our teaching methods and adapting our courses to current needs.

Doctoral student i Mathematics with specialization in structure from motion problems using vision, radio and audio.

Job assignments
Research in computer vision, mapping and positioning algorithms from images, audio and radio. The focus will be on developing methods for estimating the structure and motion using different types of input data. The applications are eg for indoor and outdoor- mapping and navigation.

The research is conducted in close collaboration with researchers from the Department of Automatic Control and the Department of Electrical and Information Technology at the Faculty of Engineering (LTH), Lund University. The project is funded by MAPCI ( Mobile and Pervasive Computing Initiative) at Lund University as part of their initiative in forming the Lund Positioning Lab.

The position also includes some instruction in basic mathematics education at the university level.

Eligibility
Students with basic eligibility for third-cycle studies are those who- have completed a second-cycle degree- have completed courses of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits are from second-cycle courses, or- have acquired largely equivalent knowledge in some other way, in Sweden or abroad.

It is also required that the student has achieved a level of knowledge in mathematics that corresponds to that of Master of Science programs in Engineering Mathematics or Engineering Physics.

Finally, the student is expected to have programming skills.

The employment of doctoral students is regulated in the Swedish Code of Statues 1998: 80. Only those who are or have been admitted to PhD-studies may be appointed to doctoral studentships. When an appointment to a doctoral studentship is made, the ability of the student to benefit from PhD-studies shall primarily be taken into account. In addition to devoting themselves to their studies, those appointed to doctoral studentships may be required to work with educational tasks, research and administration, in accordance with specific regulations in the ordinance.

Basis of Assessment
The applicant must have good knowledge of mathematics and its applications in engineering, as well as the ability to assimilate new knowledge on the subject and its applications. Experience with applications of mathematics in computer vision, image analysis and sound analysis is a plus. Programming experience is a plus.
