Doctoral student in Mathematics with focus on computer vision for traffic analysis.

Research subject

Job assignments
Research in computer vision related to image analysis, feature extraction, machine learning, statistical methods, optimization and tracking. The project is financed by the EU through the project InDeV where cooperation between traffic and computer vision research is a central component.

The focus will be mainly directed towards applications in traffic analysis from multi-sensors, for example, several RGB and thermal cameras, within the project in order to locate and follow the road users. The project involves collaboration with traffic researchers, from Lund University and also from other countries in the EU, and computer vision researchers from Aalborg in Denmark and TNO in Holland.

The position also includes undergraduate teaching.

Students with basic eligibility for third-cycle studies are those who

- have completed a second-cycle degree
- have completed courses of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits are from second-cycle courses, 
- have acquired largely equivalent knowledge in some other way, in Sweden or abroad.

It is also required that the student has achieved a level of knowledge in mathematics that corresponds to that of Master of Science programs in Engineering Mathematics or Engineering Physics.

Finally, the student is expected to have programming skills.

The employment of doctoral students is regulated in the Swedish Code of Statues 1998: 80. Only those who are or have been admitted to PhD-studies may be appointed to doctoral studentships. When an appointment to a doctoral studentship is made, the ability of the student to benefit from PhD-studies shall primarily be taken into account. In addition to devoting themselves to their studies, those appointed to doctoral studentships may be required to work with educational tasks, research and administration, in accordance with specific regulations in the ordinance.

Basis of Assessment
The applicant must have good knowledge of mathematics and its applications in engineering, as well as the ability to assimilate new knowledge on the subject and its applications. Experience with applications of mathematics in computer vision, image analysis and machine learning is a plus. Programming experience is a plus.
