LTH forms the Faculty of Engineering at Lund University, with approximately 9 000 students. The research carried out at LTH is of a high international standard and we are continuously developing our teaching methods and adapting our courses to current needs.

Research subject: Numerical Analysis

Job assignment

The research is oriented towards mathematical modelling of cardiac pumping. Documented experience in numerical analysis and medical MR image analysis is a necessary prerequisite for the work. The work will be to a large extent be performed at the Department for Clinical Physiology, Skånes Universitssjukhus, Lund and the Cardiac MR Group. Start of the position in January or after other agreements.


A person meets the general admission requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes if he or she:

1. has been awarded a second-cycle qualification, or
2. has satisfied the requirements for courses comprising at least 240 credits of which at least 60 credits were awarded in the second cycle, or
3. has acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad

The higher education institution may permit an exemption from the general entry requirements for an individual applicant, if there are special grounds. Ordinance (2010:1064).

A person meets the specific admission requirements if he or she has:

1. at least 90 credits of relevance to the subject area, of which at least 60 credits from the second cycle, and a specialised project of at least 30 second-cycle credits in the field, or
2. a second-cycle degree in a relevant field

Finally, the student must be judged to have the potential to complete the programme.

Basis of Assessment

The assessment of potential in accordance with the first paragraph is made primarily on the basis of academic results from the first and second cycle. Special attention is paid to the following:

1. Knowledge and skills relevant to the thesis project and the subject of study. These may be demonstrated through documents appended to the application and at a possible interview.
2. An assessment of ability to work independently and to formulate and tackle research problems. The assessment could be made on the basis of the student’s degree project and a discussion of this at a possible interview.
3. Written and oral communication skills

Previous documented experience of independent applied cardiovascular research is advantageous for the position.

Information regarding employment as a Doctoral student

The employment of doctoral students is regulated in the Swedish Code of Statues 1998: 80. Only those who are or have been admitted to PhD-studies may be appointed to doctoral studentships. When an appointment to a doctoral studentship is made, the ability of the student to benefit from PhD-studies shall primarily be taken into account. In addition to devoting themselves to their studies, those appointed to doctoral studentships may be required to work with educational tasks, research and administration, in accordance with specific regulations in the ordinance.
