Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top 100 universities. The University has 42 000 students and 7 400 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

MAX IV is a national large-scale research laboratory providing scientists from Sweden and the rest of the world with instruments for research in areas such as materials science, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually. 200 people are currently employed at the MAX IV Laboratory.

We are looking for scientist / postdoc to work as a part of the HIPPIE beamline team for 2 year's. The HIPPIE beamline on the 3 GeV ring of MAX IV is currently dedicated to ambient pressure x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (APXPS) . The beamline is in its initial operation phase and will accept external users during the spring of 2018. The work tasks of the scientist / postdoc include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Active participation in the commissioning of the beamline and end station in collaboration with the entire beamline team.
  • Interaction with and support of expert users (early stages of operation) and regular users (at a later stage)
  • Development of her/his own scientific project within the possibilities and capabilities of the beamline and collaboration with user groups.

The scientific project of the researcher can also make use of other beamlines at MAX IV or at other synchrotron radiation facilities. The general surface science environment of MAX IV (which includes a scanning tunnelling microscopy laboratory) can also be employed.

The active collaboration with users to forward the scientist's / postdoc's own research project as well as the projects of users is highly desirable as is the collaboration with the SPECIES beamline for APXPS and Resonant inelastic x-ray scattering on the 1.5 GeV ring of the MAX IV Laboratory.

Qualifications

  • The successful candidate must hold a PhD in physics, chemistry, materials science, or a related discipline.
  • Documented extensive experience of performing and interpreting surface science experiments.
  • Documented extensive experience of working with ultrahigh vacuum instrumentation.
  • Documented experience of synchrotron-based spectroscopy and/or microscopy experiments, of working with x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and of work with the design and set-up of new surface science instruments are considered an advantage.

The ability work in a team, good communication skills and good command of the English language are mandatory.
